Please join Klaus Pichler and Brad Feuerhelm for an experimental workshop excursion in the opulent city of Vienna where we will accumulate shades of its past, and its cultural byproducts.

This is an experimental workshop dedicated to sifting through flea markets, bookstores, and various domains of bric-a-brac where we will reconstitute items that we find by photographing, scanning, and assembling to make a catalog of what we find.

You will need the Magpies natural ability to collect, sieve and organize what you find. From street detritus to collage, everything is open to our interests. We will of course be shooting along the way with assignments in both photography and collecting. Think Irving Penn on acid.

We will be cataloguing our efforts in the studio and will compile objects and ephemera found throughout the process with images shot of Vienna itself. It will be a shooting and collecting workshop and will hopefully open the collective imaginary to viewing a city so steeped in history in a new and surprising light.

This workshop is limited to six seats because of the nature of its accumulative parts. Participants must be willing to walk, work, and should be ready to think outside of their pre-ordained way of making work.

We will be looking at sculpture, painting, and assemblage as much as we will discuss photography. Neo Rauch, Marisol Escobar, Dieter Roth, Leonor Fini, Joseph Cornell, Isa Genzken, Art Brut, Readymade, Beni Bischof, Surrealism, Automatism, Arte Povera, and folk art will all be considered as fodder for our journey.

The resulting work will be accumulated in a pdf over the summer by Klaus and Brad and distributed as such for free, for public consumption, regurgitated back into the world, chewed up, and illuminated. Expect that in September to be clear.

Price is 525 Euros + VAT,

6 seats

First come, First serve.

We will start at 10 am on July 30 and finish by 1 pm August 3rd. Expect full days or roaming, gloaming, and accumulating. Museums, bookstores, flea markets, trash piles, river mud, it’s all material. Bring shoes and maybe some gloves if your intent is trash humping.

We’re doing this with or without participants, hope you can make it.
