Nearest Truth
First Annual Report
Five-Month Development WIP
This workshop is an open platform where we share work in progress, anything from an ongoing body of work to a new project you are starting. We're also open to photobooks in the conversation. The main purpose of this four-month series of meetings is to keep people moving with their projects. The idea is not to create a hierarchy, but to respond to individual work as a group and help our colleagues keep moving by bringing references, ideas, and constructive criticism to the table.
How it Works-
From the end of January through the end of May, we will meet as a group once a month on the following weekends
Jan 23-Introduction, Outline of WIP, First Reading Assignment 14:30 CET
Feb 27/8 Continuation, Second Reading Assignment 14:30 CET
March 27/8 Continuation, Third Reading Assignment 14:30 CET
April 23/4 Continuation, Last Reading Assignment 14:30 CET
May 21/2 Close 14:30
We discuss which dates work best for everyone at our first meeting on January 23.
At our group meetings, we will exchange ideas and outline questions about our work, then move into successive study groups that begin with a talk about our reading assignments and work development. This means this study group will work progressively through individual goals and that, no matter what you bring, a progressive workflow will be a required function of the group. If you have shot and are working on selections or book sequencing, we can work with that, but development will still need to occur, even if experimental, for your own benefit between sessions.
You will also have a one-hour meeting with Brad Feuerhelm once a month to review your work in private, and you will be paired with one other individual from the group each month on a rotating basis to meet and share ideas. This will encourage multiple points of view and help you bond throughout the development period. We will establish this schedule in our first meetings.
I expect meetings to last 5-6 hours, but they may be slightly shorter or longer. We will have a clearer idea once we start. I anticipate spending 30 minutes reviewing the reading, another 30 minutes looking at outside work, and 25-30 minutes per individual for group crit.
We will take eight individuals for this experience. If many people enroll, we may consider a second day during those weekends. For now, we are focusing on eight individuals.
Important notice: previous courses included recorded meetings. We will discontinue this for this series. In other words, if you enroll, please plan to be with us for everyone, including yourself.
