The Overview

Nearest Truth Workshop‘s Year-Long photobook workshop is the first of its kind to offer four different tiers of involvment in which participants may join via zoom, zoom+mentorship, or physical+zoom+mentorship, and our new tier, the full publishing program which incorporates all facets of the course. We are offering these itierationss as a way to be as inclusive as possible for the varying needs of our participants. We also offer early-bird pricing and payment plans.

Zoom-Only Program

Our zoom program offers up to 30+ different artists, curators, thinkers, publishers and writers that will give the particpants insight into the industry and the photobook medium. We will provide a single date each month which live zoom conferences will occur. These lectures will be recorded for review. This will give our participants with particularly difficult time zones a chance to be watch the courses later. There will be three instructors per session. We will meet every month with the exception of of September, January, and June when the physical workshops are meeting abroad.

Mentorship

The Zoom+Mentorship course gives participants a chance to work directly with Brad from Nearest Truth once a month on their individual projects. This module is meant to provide access to the lectures and offer a monthly feedback loop over the year to get general reflections regarding work in progress related to books.

The particpants for this module will receive the zoom course and a 1.5-hour private meeting with Brad per month. If a participant cannot find an easy time to meet during the period of one-month, it is possible to schedule a longer meeting the following month. Bookings will be made in advance and will be kept to the best of both sides’ ability. The participant is allowed to miss one mentorship model which may be rescheduled. After that missed module, the participant bears all responsibility for any further missed modules. This tier also includes the monthly Zoom lectures.

Physical Workshop+Zoom+Mentorship

As outlined on the Nearest Truth Workshops website, the physical workshops will meet three times between 2025/2026 in Germany and Greece (x2). These meetings have been divided between editing/sequencing, print production, and publisher meeting modules. The dates are estimated to be the third week of September in Germany, the second week of January in Patras, Greece and a final meeting in June in Athens, Greece. Participants are expected to make it the obligatory first and third meetings. The printing meeting in Patras, Greece is optional.

The final workshop in Athens will allow participants to show their work to four publishers that have been invited along at the end of the course to look at work and showcase their publishing houses.

Full Development/Publishing + Physical Workshop + Mentorship +  Zoom

We will develop and publish the book for the artist with Nearest Truth Editions. In this fee, we include concept, design, art direction and all tiers of the outlined workshop. We will bring the book to market art our annual Polycopies table/booth during Parisphoto in November. It is imperative to meet via Zoom ahead of acceptance for this tier. During this consultation, we will discuss our shared vision to ensure a cooperative development. There is a nominal non-refundable fee for the consultation which will be applied toward the course if accepted. We will look at your pdf first before the consultation so there will be no cost until you are accepted to the consultation. This is to ensure sincerity on both sides.

Artist’s applications will be reviewed by the Nearest Truth Editions Board before we accept the work. We do not take everyone for this tier. The work must be near to completion upon acceptance. The artist must be flexible to both their vision and the vision of Nearest Truth Editions.

Participant Refund Information

Refunds for these workshops are not possible. There are too many moving parts involved. Once you sign on, it is up to you to finish the course with us. The world is a difficult place right now and as much as we want more financial flexibility, we cannot offer refunds due to the expense of the program. This is implicit as we confirm the workshop based on this information. We can also speak about postponement under specific circumstances.

Payment Plans

We understand that the economics of the course is not suitable for everyone. With an ambitious program comes ambitious expenditure, which results in a higher price of admission. We are open to payment plans for people based on a shifting rule of economics to ensure that once accepted for the course and once committed to remission of payment, the participants are responsible for honouring their investment in themselves and us.

We ask that all payment terms be fulfilled as per the contract, and to help this, we will offer individual payment plans. We also cannot issue, under any circumstances, refunds for individuals who cannot attend after signing their contract and after payments have begun. If the participant cannot make their payment (within reason), their participantion may be ended. We prefer to continue working with people and will do our best to maintain a great working relationship. This stated, it is important to make the payment dates.
